Novak Djokovic created history on Monday (July 7) at the iconic centre court of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club after defeating Australia's Alex de Minaur in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Wimbledon. With the incredible victory, the Serbian broke the long-standing world record of Roger Federer.
The 38-year-old faced a tough fight in his bid to reach the quarter-final as he was outclassed in the first set by a 6-1 scoreline. However, the Serbian made a strong comeback by winning the match in the fourth set by winning the remaining three sets by an identical scoreline of 6-4.
Novak Djokovic Breaks Roger Federer's World Record
With his victory yesterday, Djokovic set a massive world record, which was previously held by Roger Federer for the most wins at Wimbledon by a male player (singles) in the Open Era after turning 30. While Federer registered 46 victories post his 30th birthday, the Serbian has become the first to have 47 matches. If the seven-time champion manages to win the title, he will get to 50 wins, which will see him becoming the first player to complete a half-century of victories at the year's only grass court Grand Slam by a player in their 30s.

Djokovic has won four of his seven titles at Wimbledon after he turned 30 with triumphs in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. On the other hand, Federer won only two of his eight titles after his 30th birthday, with victories in 2012 and 2017.
Interestingly, Djokovic achieved the feat while Federer was in attendance and watching in the stands.
The Serbian will now face Italy's Flavio Coboli in the quarter-final in the quarter-final on Wednesday (July 9). The Serbian is aiming for an eighth title, which will take him level for the most Wimbledon titles alongside Federer. He also has the chance to create history and win an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam.
