Dinesh Karthik hilariously exposed Ravi Shastri's role in dropping him from the Test team in 2018. The wicketkeeper-batsman played his last Test match at Lord's in August 2018. He was dropped from the playing XI for the 3rd Test and then lost his place in the squad altogether. Karthik went on the England tour as India's first-choice wicketkeeper. Rishabh Pant, who made it to the Test squad for the first time in 2018, made his debut in the third Test. Rishabh has been a regular in the Test squad since then and is the present vice-captain of the team.
Speaking to Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain on the Sky Sports Cricket YouTube channel, Karthik revealed that it was Shastri who told him that his Test career was over.
"There’s not much in common between me and Nass, and I’d like to keep it that way. He finished at Lord’s. I finished at Lord’s. The only difference was that he went and knocked on the coach’s doors, saying I think I’m done. In my case, the coach came in and said, ‘Don’t bother coming in the next Test, you are done," Karthik revealed.
Interestingly, Shastri was sitting next to Karthik when he made the shocking reveal. The wicketkeeper-batsman remained out of Team India until Shastri was the head coach.
