Five Highest Individual Run-Getters In Test Cricket History

Brian Lara (400*) - West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara hit Test cricket's first-ever double ton against England at the Antigua Recreation Ground in 2004. This record has stood the test of time with no player coming realistically close to mark in 21 years. However, the match in question ended in a draw despite Lara's superhuman effort, while England won the series 3-0. Lara was leading West Indies in the match also giving him the special feat of being the first captain to reach the milestone.
Matthew Hayden (380) - Matthew Hayden hit a spectacular knock of 380 against Zimbabwe at the iconic WACA Stadium in Perth in 2003 and narrowly missed the chance to be the first player to breach the 400 mark, a few months before Lara got there. Hayden's tally is the highest knock by a player in a winning cause.
Brian Lara (375) - Brian Lara is the only player in Test cricket history to score two knocks above 350. 10 years before his 400, Lara hit a knock of 375 against the same opponent (England) at the same venue. This game also ended in a draw
Mahela Jayawardene (374) - Mahela Jayawardene hit a knock of 374 against Sri Lanka at the SSC Stadium in Colombo in 2006. The match is famous for a world-record partnership of 624 runs between Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, who also made a huge knock of 287. Sri Lanka won the match by an innings and 153 runs.
