Prithvi Shaw has taken a huge step to revive his cricketing career and joined a new team before the 2025/26 domestic season. The opening batsman is set to play under Ruturaj Gaikwad from the next season as he has joined Maharashtra cricket team. Prithvi, who played all his cricket for Mumbai before making it to the international team, recently received his NOC from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Prithvi captained India U-19 cricket team to a World Cup win before making his India debut.
"At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricket. I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support I have received over the years," Prithvi said in a statement.
At Maharashtra, Prithvi will open the innings with Ruturaj. Interestingly, both the batsmen are eyeing the opening position in Team India. While Ruturaj is in contention to make his comeback in all three formats, Prithvi isn't in the scheme of things.
The right-handed batsman has been out of Team India since 2023. He hasn't played for India since 2021. Prithvi will hope to bounce back strongly and score ample runs under Ruturaj's leadership.
Prithvi Shaw was dropped in 2024/25 season
Prithvi Shaw was dropped twice from the Mumbai cricket team during the 2024/25 season. He was part of the Ranji Trophy team but was dropped after a couple of matches. He made his return for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but was again dropped for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Prithvi shockingly went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, which ended his season early. He participated in the Mumbai T20 league, which took place after IPL 2025.
Prithvi isn't expected to make it to any of the Duleep Trophy squads. Hence, his season will kick off with Ranji Trophy in October.
