Jasprit Bumrah was the sole shining light in India's bowling attack in their loss in the first Test vs England at Leeds. Hence, fans were perplexed when he was left out of the playing XI due to workload management issues in the 2nd Test at Edgbaston. However, his absence did not prove to be much of a concern in the second innings of the Test match. Mohammed Siraj stepped up in Bumrah's absence as he picked up 6 wickets, as England were all out for 407, giving India a strong 180-run lead. Siraj has now stated the change in his approach, as he is the senior pro in India's pace attack in the 2nd Test.
In the press conference after play on Day 3 of the 2nd Test match, Mohammed Siraj highlighted that he had to step up as Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna were both inexperienced. Hence, he had to deliver consistent lines and lengths.
"I love responsibility, I love the challenge. It's unbelievable because I was waiting for a long time. I have been bowling well but not getting wickets. I have only got four-wicket hauls here, so getting six here is very special. It's Akash Deep's third or fourth match, same for Prasidh, so I was just focused on staying consistent and building pressure. I feel like trying different things, but I have to stay consistent,” the pacer said.
“The wicket was very slow but when you are given a responsibility to lead the attack, my aim was not to try too much and just bowl in the right areas and bowl with discipline. My mindset was to keep it tight and not give away runs," he added.

Mohammed Siraj Ends 32-Year-Old Drought
Mohammed Siraj finished with figures of 6/70, which included the big wickets of Zak Crawley, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes. Later, he wrapped up the tail by dismissing Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and Shoaib Bashir.
The 31-year-old's spell is the first instance of a visiting pacer taking a six-wicket haul at Edgbaston since 1993. His bowling figures are also the third-best at a ground by a pacer from an away team. The Indian star is only one of five pacers to take a five-wicket haul against England at Edgbaston.
Mohammed Siraj is only the fifth Indian pacer to take a five-wicket haul in England after Amar Singh, Chetan Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma.
