Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma won't make their on-field returns in August as the India tour of Bangladesh is likely to get cancelled. The Indian legends were set to feature in the ODI leg of the white-ball series against the hosts. But India are reportedly unlikely to travel there. Both cricketing boards are likely to confirm this in the next few days. The 3 ODIs were scheduled to be played on August 17, 20 and 23, followed by 3 T20Is on August 26, 29 and 31.
With the series cancelled, Virat's and Rohit's ODI returns are on hold. They are only active in 50-over cricket now. They retired from T20I cricket after winning the 2024 World Cup. The former India Test captains quit the longest format before the selection meeting for the England tour.
When will Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma make their returns?
Virat and Rohit will make their on-field returns during the Australia tour. The Men in Blue are scheduled to tour Australia for 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is in October-November. The 3 ODIs are scheduled to be played on October 19, 23 and 25. The 5 T20Is will be played on October 29, 31, November 2, 6 and 8, respectively.
Rohit and Virat last played an ODI in the 2025 Champions Trophy final. The Rohit-led side defeated New Zealand in the final to lift the trophy.
After the Australia tour, India will host South Africa in 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. After the SA series, India will host New Zealand in 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is.
Virat and Rohit could be asked to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scheduled to be played from December 24 to January 18. Virat hasn't played a white-ball domestic game since 2013. Rohit played in the 2018/19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, which Mumbai won.
