Pujara Flags Major Flaw In Yashasvi Jaiswal's Batting Despite Brilliant 87 In 2nd Test: 'Wait For Him To...' (Source: AP/PTI)
Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the show on Day 1 of the second Test against England and scored a scintillating 87 in 107 balls, including 13 boundaries. Jaiswal has been in terrific form in the series and also scored a brilliant century in the first Test. The southpaw had a shaky start and missed a few slashes, luckily not edging one to the keeper; however, once he settled in, he dominated the England bowlers.
Veteran India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara reflected on Yashasvi Jaiswal's knock and highlighted how the bowlers need to stay patient to get rid of him. Pujara said bowlers need to stick to a consistent line outside off and wait for Jaiswal to make a mistake. The 103 Test legend added that Jaiswal settled well after a nervy start and was in complete control of the game.
"You've got to bowl the right length; around off-stump, on a good length. Keep doing that and wait for him to make a mistake,” Pujara told Sony Sports.
“Early on, it seemed like he was trying too hard to play shots, but once he settled, the kind of strokes he played were outstanding. Once he gets through that initial half-hour, he's in complete control. He doesn't miss scoring opportunities, and that makes it very difficult for a bowling team.
"If you pitch it up, he drives well. If it's short outside off-stump, he cuts well. If you try bumpers, he pulls confidently. The margin of error for bowlers is incredibly small against him.”
Meanwhile, India ended the Day in a strong position, at 310-5, with Shubman Gill unbeaten on 114 and Ravindra Jadeja not out on 41. India did suffer a mini collapse after the fall of Jaiswal and lost Rishabh Pant and Nitish Redy early, reeling at 208-4, but Gill and Jadeja steadied the ship with an unbeaten 99-run stand. India made three changes in the playing XI and included Nitish Reddy, Akash Deep, and Washington Sundar for Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, and Sai Sudharsan, respectively.
