After winning their historic first World Test Championship (WTC) title a few days ago, South Africa have returned to the red-ball format as they are taking on Zimbabwe in the first Test of the two-match series at the Queen Sports Club at Bulawayo. This test is not a part of the WTC 2025-27 cycle. Hence, a lot of regular members of the Proteas team are missing, making way for some young blood in the team. One of their most exciting prospects, Dewald Brevis, has made his debut for South Africa in the longest format of the game in this match. In his very first appearance in whites, Brevis has gone on to break a major world record.
Dewald Brevis slammed a quickfire 51 from 41 balls in an innings studded with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Brevis reached his half-century in 38 balls. The right-handed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter became the fastest player to hit a half-century in his debut innings in Test Cricket.
New Zealand's Tim Southee smashed a 29-ball fifty in his debut Test against England, while England's Jacob Bethell has a 37-ball 50 on his debut. However, both these efforts came in the second innings of their respective Test Matches.
Dewald Brevis also slammed a 95-run stand for the fifth wicket with fellow debutant Lhuan-dre Pretorius, as they rescued South Africa after their first four wickets fell for 55 runs.

Lhuan Dre-Pretorius Creates History

Lhuan-dre Pretorius slammed a century on his debut in Test Cricket. He created history and became the youngest centurion for South Africa in the longest format. He is also the youngest debutant to score a ton for SA.
At 19 years and 93 days, Pretorius broke a 61-year-old record held by Graeme Pollock. Pollock, who was SA's youngest Test centurion for 61 years, was 19 years and 317 days old when he slammed a century against Australia in 1964.
