India began their five-match Test series vs England on a sour note as they were defeated by the hosts by a margin of 5 wickets. Shubman Gill and his men will now look to level the series as they take on England in the second Test at the prestigious Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, hoping for a win. India's bowling attack was not that effective in the first Test, and it looks like the management is looking at wholesale changes in that department. Jasprit Bumrah's absence, however, will be a massive blow for Team India.
Jasprit Bumrah had confirmed before the start of the series that he would only play three out of the five matches, owing to workload management issues following his recent back injury. For this, he is expected to miss the second Test. Alongside Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, too is expected to be dropped, following his expensive outing in Headingley.

Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh Likely To Feature

During the practice session in Birmingham, both Bumrah and Krishna arrived at the venue, but did not hit the nets right from the outset.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel were heavily focused on Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh during the practice session. At first, Morkel spoke with Akash Deep, while Gambhir was behind the nets. Then, Gambhir came in front and had a long discussion first with him, and then followed by Arshdeep Singh. Both Akash and Arshdeep were bowling with the new ball in the net, hinting that they can open the bowling for India at Headingley.

Shardul Thakur Out, Nitish Reddy In

Shardul Thakur had a disappointing outing in the first Test with both bat and ball. He could only manage to score 1 and 4 in both innings. With the ball too, he was pretty expensive, taking just two wickets in the game.
If the practice session is anything to go by, then it is likely that Nitish Reddy would replace Shardul in the playing XI
