Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting was spotted acting as a water boy for his son, Fletcher William Ponting, during a recent Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 net session. The child was playing in the nets for the Washington Freedom. The Washington Freedom, led by head coach Ponting, are performing well in the MLC 2025 season and are now ranked second in the standings with 10 points from 6 games.
Ponting's son, Fletcher William, came out with his kit bag and got ready to bat during a Washington Freedom net practice. Everyone was impressed by the child's timing and technique, and Glenn Maxwell did throwdowns. The fact that Ricky Ponting was standing close by, observing intently and offering his son helpful batting advice, made the moment more special.
Additionally, he became Fletcher's water boy, and the father-son exchange made supporters happy and gave them hope that Fletcher would follow in his father's footsteps.
Meanwhile, the Washington Freedom maintained its impressive performance in MLC 2025. They just won an exciting last-ball game in Dallas against the Los Angeles Knight Riders. With their five-wicket victory, Freedom passed the Texas Super Kings to take second place in the standings and edge closer to a postseason berth.
The 2025 season is going really well for head coach Ricky Ponting. In the IPL 2025 season final, he guided Punjab Kings to a narrow 6-run defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Ponting will now want to cross the finish line and take home the MLC championship with Freedom.
