Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja shared an interesting anecdote about Rishabh Pant during the Ranji Trophy 2015, showing the fearless attitude and self-belief Pant carried even as a teenager. Jadeja, who was the Delhi Ranji coach back then, revealed that Pant wasn't picked in the Delhi team. Jadeja, as coach, asked him to still come for the Ranji practice, but got a stunning reply in return - "Bhaiya, rehne do na, jab zarurat padegi to ghar se bulayange."
Jadeja became the Delhi coach in September 2015, but his stint didn't last long as he resigned within days after taking over the state team due to a fallout with the DDCA.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant had a terrific outing in the first Test against England. Pant created history and became only the second wicketkeeper-batter after Andy Flower to score twin centuries in a Test match. The century established Pant's authority as one of the greatest wicketkeeper-batters in Indian cricket history. The twin centuries took his tally of hundreds to eight and helped him break MS Dhoni's record of most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter.
Big Worries For India Ahead Of 2nd Test
Pant, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul scored centuries in the first Test, but India still have plenty of problems, especially in the lower order, which suffered two huge collapses in both innings. The top order might not get runs in every game, and if the lower order is not contributing, India will be in trouble.
The second worry for India is the bowling that looked off-colour in the first game. Bumrah was brilliant, but he didn't get any support. Bumrah will only play three Tests, so the recent form shown by other bowlers will give nightmares to the fans. India need to pull up their socks and work on their flaws if they are to make a comeback in the series.
