Sanjiv Goenka took to social media to hail Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul as the current and former captains of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) scored a century against England in India's second innings of the first Test match at the Headingley Cricket Stadium in Leeds on Monday (June 23).
For those unversed, Goenka is the owner of the Lucknow-based franchise in the IPL, which came into existence in 2022. Pant is the current captain of the franchise. The Indian vice-captain created history by becoming only the second wicket-keeper batter in history to score twin tons in a Test match and the first Indian batter to achieve the rare double in England.
The LSG owner was full of praise for Pant and hailed him as 'aggressive, audacious, and brilliant.' Goenka also congratulated Rahul for his ton. The Indian opening batter led LSG for three years from 2022 to 2024 and was their first-ever captain. The 33-year-old now has the most centuries by an Asian Opener in England.
Two good! Back-to-back centuries for @RishabhPant17. Aggressive, audacious, brilliant. Only the second wicketkeeper in history to score a century in both innings of a Test. Congratulations also to @klrahul for his hundred," wrote Goenka on X.
Talking about the match, the duo put up a 195-run partnership for the fifth wicket after Indian captain Shubman Gill departed early on Day 3 after making just eight runs. Pant made 118 runs in just 140 balls while Rahul put up a score of 137 in 247 balls as they helped India set a target above the 350 mark for England.
Earlier, Pant scored a century in the first innings with a knock of 134 in the first innings as India put up 477 on the board. Rahul gave the visitors a solid start with a knock of 42 after Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl first.
