KL Rahul put on a masterclass at Headingley and scored a magnificent century in the second innings to put India on top in the first Test. Rahul, who ended Day 3 at unbeaten 47, saw Shubman Gill depart cheaply; however, he, along with Rishabh Pant, put England on the mat with a 195 run stand. While Pant was at his flamboyant best, Rahul was ice-cool and played a very composed knock.
The hundred by KL Rahul was his ninth in his Test career. Rahul has been a force for India away from home. Out of his nine Test centuries, eight have come away from home.

Meanwhile, the hundred helped Rahul etch his name in the record books. This was Rahul's third hundred in England, and he leapfrogged the likes of Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri in the list of most centuries by Asian openers in England.

Meanwhile, Rahul also equalled Virender Sehwag and Murali Vijay's record of most fifty-plus scores by an Indian opener in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) countries. Rahul now has nine fifty-plus scores in SENA and is only behind the legendary Sunil Gavaskar in the list.

India Creates Unique Record

The century by Rahul was India's fifth in the Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill scored centuries in the first innings, while Pant scored centuries in both innings. This was the first instance in Indian cricket history that five Indian batters scored centuries in a Test.
Meanwhile, India's lead is well over 300, and they find themselves in a great position to win the Test.
