Dropped and ignored by the Mumbai Cricket team during the 2024/25 season, Prithvi Shaw is now eyeing a new start and he is set to join a new team before the next season. Prithvi, who played all his domestic cricket for Mumbai, sought an NOC from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday (June 23). The out-of-favour India batsman has offers from 3 to 4 states but he has reportedly inked on his next destination. Shaw has received his NOC.
The Times of India has reported that Shaw is likely to move to the Maharashtra Cricket team. Shaw, if he joins Maharashtra, will play under Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Ruturaj leads Maharashtra cricket team in domestic cricket. Since he isn't a regular in Team India, Ruturaj is likely to be available for the majority of matches.
Shaw was part of the Mumbai cricket team at the start of the season but was dropped in the early stages of Ranji Trophy. He made his return for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which Mumbai won.
He was again dropped for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which marked an end to his season. Shaw shockingly went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction held in November last year. He hasn't played a domestic game since December 2024.
Shaw will hope that changing his domestic team will help him make his Team India comeback. Recently, Karun Nair made his national comeback after 7 years.
Karun lost his place in Karnataka's Ranji Trophy squad in December 2022. He switched his base to Vidarbha before the next season. Karun's dream run for Vidarbha in the 2024/25 season saw him force his way back into the India Test team. He is part of the playing XI in the first Test against England.
Shaw, who slammed a century on his Test debut against West Indies in 2018, has played 5 Tests, 6 ODIs and a T20I. The former India U-19 World Cup-winning captain has been out of the national team for more than 2 years.
