Anna Leigh Waters made history on Monday morning (Indian Standard Time) as she became the first player ever to achieve a ‘Triple 50’ on the PPA Tour: 50 singles titles, 50 mixed doubles titles, and 50 gender doubles titles.
In another record-extending feat, Waters clean-swept a PPA Tour event for the second consecutive time this year as she reigned supreme in women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, making it her 35th triple crown on the PPA Tour. She defeated Catherine Parenteau without much fuss, claiming a benign 11-6, 11-1 win.
Her most recent triple crown came at the Atlanta Pickleball Championships in May after a brief slump at the North Carolina Open, where she lost the women’s singles and both doubles finals and failed to reach the mixed doubles final.
However, on Monday, Waters showed the world why she is regarded as one of the greatest in the game, even at the tender age of 18.
Playing with Anna Bright in only their second tournament of the year since Waters split her partnership with Parenteau, the Annas claimed their second successive PPA Tour title. They defeated a pair formed by their respective former partners, Rachel Rohrabacher and Parenteau.
But it was not an easy win. Waters and Bright lost the opening game before bouncing back to claim the next two games and emerge victorious 11-2, 11-8, 11-8.
In the second game, Parenteau and Rohrabacher seemed poised to stun their opponents as they went up 8-4, but a 15-point scoring run from Waters and Bright put the match out of reach.
This win, meanwhile, marked the dominance of the Annas. They have been unbeaten through nine tournaments (seven in 2023 and two in 2025).
“[Catherine and Rachel] came out firing in Game 2, and we kind of had to up our level,” Bright said after the final. “And then Game 3 was definitely a game of runs. We were able to start ahead and kind of hold on when they had that big late-game surge. Congrats to them - it is really fun playing them in the final.”
Waters, who now has 52 singles titles, 50 women’s doubles titles, and 52 mixed doubles titles to her name, expressed gratitude to her mother-cum-coach Leigh Waters and to all her playing partners - both past and present.
“I honestly could not do the doubles without Anna, without Catherine, and without my mom. I could not do the mixed without Ben [Johns], so thank you to all my partners for staying strong. It is definitely not just me out here on the court, so I definitely want to make that statement,” she said.
“I am enjoying every moment, enjoying playing at facilities like this, and today I really enjoyed sharing the court with Anna Bright. Hopefully this is not my last, but I am very happy with what I have achieved and what we have achieved," she added.
Waters, Johns Sweep Johnson Siblings
It has been three and a half years since they played their first tournament together at the Desert Ridge Open, and they remain the most dominant pair on the PPA Tour.
On Monday, they scripted history by winning their 50th mixed doubles title by taking down the second-seeded duo of Jorja Johnson and JW Johnson 11-4, 11-9, 11-5 in the final.
In what was their third meeting in a summit clash in 2025, Waters and Johns made it 2-1 against the Johnson siblings, who emerged triumphant against their rivals most recently at the North Carolina Open in April.
Johns, who suffered a stunning loss in the first round of the Orange County Cup to Brazil’s Rafael Lenhard, completed a double by winning the men’s doubles title. Johns and his partner Gabe Tardio defeated Federico Staksrud and Hayden Patriquin in a five-game thriller 10-12, 11-7, 11-8, 4-11, 11-3. For Staksrud, it was a double whammy as he also lost the men's singles final, with Hunter Johnson stunning top seed Staksrud 11-2, 11-5 to win the title.
