India are currently taking on England in the first Test of the five-match series at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. Shubman Gill's men are currently batting in the third innings, after they took a 6-run lead, by restricting England to 465. The England players were out mainly due to the brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah, while the other bowlers did not look at his level. Bumrah managed to dismiss half of the England side, as he created history by breaking a big World Test Championship (WTC) record.
Jasprit Bumrah finished with figures of 5/83. This was the star fast bowler's 11th five-wicket haul in WTC history. He now becomes the pace bowler with the most five-fers in the WTC. He overtakes Australia captain Pat Cummins, who has 10 five-wicket hauls in the competition.
Here are the pacers with the most wickets in WTC history:
Player Country Five-Wicket Hauls
Jasprit Bumrah India 11
Pat Cummins Australia 10
Kagiso Rabada South Africa 8
Josh Hazlewood Australia 6
Tim Southee New Zealand 6
Jasprit Bumrah also equalled the record for being the bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in WTC history. He equals former teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, who has 11 five-wicket hauls to his name as well in the competition.
Here are the players with the most five-wicket hauls in WTC history:
Player Country Five-Wicket Hauls
Jasprit Bumrah India 11
Ravichandran Ashwin India 11
Pat Cummins Australia 10
Nathan Lyon Australia 10

Prabhath Jayasuriya Sri Lanka 8

Jasprit Bumrah Breaks Multiple Records

Jasprit Bumrah, with his five-wicket haul, now has 150 wickets in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia). He becomes the Asian bowler with the most wickets in SENA countries surpassing the legendary Wasim Akram, who has 146 wickets in SENA countries. He also becomes the first Asian player to reach 150 Test wickets in SENA nations.
Bumrah also becomes the third Asian with 10 five-wicket hauls in Test matches in SENA countries, after Wasim Akram and Lasith Malinga.
