Karun Nair will take a big step after his Test comeback and he is set to switch his state before the 2025/26 domestic season. Karun enjoyed a dream run for Vidarbha in the 2024/25 domestic season and his solid performance for them saw him make his Test comeback after 7 years. Karun had joined Vidarbha before the 2023/24 domestic season.
Cricbuzz has reported that Karun will rejoin Karnataka before the next season. The right-handed batsman played for Karnataka in junior cricket before making it to the senior level. Karun was part of Karnataka when he first made it to Team India in 2016.
4 years after losing his place in the Test team, Karun also lost his place in the state team. He moved to Vidarbha after losing his place in the Karnataka cricket team. After 2 seasons, he is now set to return to Karnataka.
Karun scored 863 runs in 9 Ranji Trophy matches in the previous season. Batting at an average of 389.50, Nair piled up 779 runs in 8 innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His tally included 5 centuries and a half-century.
The 33-year-old missed out on making it to the 2025 Champions Trophy squad but forced his way into the Test team. Karun looks all but set to play his first Test since 2017. He was part of the England tour in 2018 but didn't get a place in the playing XI. He was dropped after the England series.
One of the two Indian batsmen to score a triple-century in Test cricket, Karun has 374 runs in six Test matches. He achieved the milestone in the Chennai Test match against England in 2016. Virender Sehwag was the first batsman to hit a triple-century in Tests. Karun has 46 runs in 2 ODIs. He made his white-ball debut along with KL Rahul and Yuzvendra Chahal in the first ODI of the three-match series against Zimbabwe in June 2016.
