The Shubman Gill-led Indian cricket team is all set to take on Ben Stokes' England side in a five-match Test series, which will start from June 20 in Leeds. This series marks the debut of Gill as India's new Test captain who took over the position from the legendary Rohit Sharma, who announced his retirement from red-ball cricket last month. After Rohit, the Indian batting maestro bid goodbye to the format as well.
Shubman Gill reveals talking to Rohit and Virat
The new Indian Test captain, Shubman Gill, revealed that he talked with both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during the IPL, prior to this series, and they shared their experience of England conditions with him.
"I met both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the IPL, and they shared their experiences of England. I spoke to them during the IPL," said Gill in the pre-match press conference on the eve of the first Test.
Shubman Gill will be seen batting in a new spot as he takes the iconic number 4 position in the line-up, which was previously held by the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. He also revealed having a conversation with Gautam Gambhir about batting at the position.
"Captaining the country is the biggest honour anyone can get. After Virat bhai retired, me and GG bhai discussed me batting at that number," said Gill.
The young Indian brigade would have an uphill task of taking on the strong England side at their home and win their first ever series since 2007.
