KEY HIGHLIGHTS

- MS Dhoni stands top of the historic list
- Pant has been appointed as India's vice-captain
India's five-match Test series against England, starting from Thursday (June 20) at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds will mark a huge moment in Rishabh Pant as his third tour of England in the longest format will not mark his first assignment as the vice-captain of the team since being appointed as Shubman Gill's deputy but also see him chasing MS Dhoni's world record.
Gill and Pant were handed the top job af India's leadership group in red-ball cricket, which saw a major change after Rohit Sharma's retirement and Jasprit Bumrah's decision to decline the captaincy role due to workload management issues.
Pant has a terrific record in England, having made his debut in the country in 2018, and as the team's second-most senior batter, his performances will be key to the visitors' chances of winning a series on English soil for the first time in 2007.
Rishabh Pant On Cusp Of MS Dhoni's World Record
So far in his career, Pant has eight Test matches in England and has 511 runs at an average of 34.06 with two centuries. The 27-year-old is the ninth-highest run-getter among wicket-keeper batters from visiting batters (non-English) in the country. His tally is the highest among Indian glovesmen.
The record for the most runs in England by a non-English wicket-keeper is held by Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni. Pant is 267 runs away from his tally and 289 runs away from completing 800 runs in the country, which will make him the first player to achieve the feat.
