If reports are to be believed, India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has travelled to London to get treated for a sports hernia on the right side of his body. India don't have any immediate white-ball series lined up, and Surya is willing to use this time to focus on his recovery and long-term fitness.
India's next white ball series is against Bangladesh in August. While Surya is not certain to play the ODIs, he will lead the side in the T20I series that gets underway on August 26. Reportedly, Surya will begin the treatment next week and will need about eight weeks to get back on the field.
While there is no official statement from the BCCI, reports claim that the right-handed batter could return to action by August. If the recovery is slower than expected, then there are chances he may skip the Bangladesh series to attain full recovery. The Bangladesh series will be followed by a series against Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand before the T20 World Cup. India also are scheduled to host the Asia Cup in September, but the odds are high that the tournament will be postponed due to the strained India-Pakistan relations.
Suryakumar Yadav was in stunning form in the recently concluded IPL and scored 717 runs in 16 matches at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.9. Remarkably, he scored 25 or more in all 16 innings, setting a new T20 record for most consecutive 25+ scores. His prolific run helped Mumbai Indians reach the playoffs, where they were defeated by the Punjab Kings.
