The Tembav Bavuma-led side created history a the Proteas won an ICC trophy after a gap of 27 years and their first 'world title.' The only other global event that South Africa won was the 1998 ICC Knockout Cup in Bangladesh under Hansie Cronje's leadership.
Steyn is among the greatest pacers to play the sport in history and one of the finest cricketers South Africa has ever produced. He is their highest wicket-taker in Test cricket history (439) and was part of multiple South African teams that suffered heartbreak on the big stage.

"What do you do. What do I say. I am extremely proud. I am sitting at home. I have my cap here. I will take my son for a walk. Life will carry on," said Steyn with tears in his eyes to Star Sports.

South Africa's Historic Win

The 2025 WTC final was also the Proteas' first appearance in the summit clash of the event. Their victory means that all three editions have produced different champions after New Zealand and Australia's win in the first two finals against India.
As far as the match is concerned, Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Kagiso Rabada's five-wicket haul helped South Africa bowl out South Africa for just 212. In reply, the Proteas were bundled out for just 138 as Australian captain Pat Cummins took a six-wicket haul.
South Africa made a strong comeback and reduced Australia to 73-7, but some lower-order heroics with a half-century from Mitchell Starc helped the defending champions post 207 on the board.
The Proteas chased down a daunting total of 282 with Aiden Markram emerging as the hero with a knock of 136. Bavuma played a key role with a half-century (66) despite dealing with a hamstring issue.
