The IPL 2025 final, which saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning the trophy for the first time after they beat Punjab Kings by 6 runs, has set a new television viewership record in India, with 169 million viewers watching the match, according to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) data.
The record viewership for the final has surpassed the previous record of 166 million viewers set during the India-Pakistan match in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
The IPL 2025 final achieved a television rating (TVR) of 11, marking the third-highest rating in IPL history, despite being played on a weekday (June 3, Tuesday). The TVR measurement combines reach and time spent to reflect viewer engagement with the content.
In terms of total watch-time, the IPL final generated 15 billion minutes, exceeding the previous record of 14.2 billion minutes recorded during the India-South Africa T20 World Cup 2024 final.
The second most-watched match of IPL 2025 was the game between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, which drew 163 million viewers.
In the opening week of the 18th season, the cash-rich league drew over 253 million viewers and accumulated 27.7 billion minutes of watch-time.
IPL 2025 began on March 22 but was halted for a week due to mounting military tensions between India and Pakistan on May 9, when Punjab Kings' match against Delhi Capitals was abandoned midway.
The IPL resumed on May 17, when the remaining 17 matches of the league took place, culminating with the final on June 3, extending beyond the original date of the final, May 25.
RCB were fourth-time lucky, as they finally won the IPL in their fourth appearance in the final since the inception of the league in 2008.
