South Africa defeated Australia by five wickets to win the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Ahead of the WTC final, not many gave South Africa a chance, but the Proteas continued their juggernaut in the WTC and stunned the defending champions. Kagiso Rabada was the star with the ball and picked nine wickets across innings to bowl out Australia for 212 and 207 in the first and second innings, respectively.
South Africa were under pressure after Pat Cummins' six-fer knocked them out for 138 in the first innings, but a magnificent 136 by Aiden Markram and a composed 66 by Temba Bavuma helped the Proteas secure an impressive win in a chase of 282.
Bavuma has been magnificent as a captain for South Africa. He boasts of a stellar record as captain and is yet to lose a Test since taking over the leadership reins from Dean Elgar. After South Africa clinched the WTC final, Bavuma's reaction went viral on social media. The occasion was big and many expected Bavuma to go wild, but he stood emotionless for a while before congratulating the players.
Aiden Markram was declared the player of the match for his remarkable knock.

South Africa Drop Chokers Tag

South Africa carried the chokers tag for decades, but the WTC might finally break the jinx. The Proteas came close to winning a World Cup many times, but faltered every time. In the T20 World Cup 2024, they needed 30 in 28 balls, with Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller at the crease, yet failed to win the title against India. Year after year, they suffered numerous setbacks, and the WTC win will help erase all the bad memories.

Bavuma Reacts To The WTC Win

Meanwhile, Bavuma reacted to the WTC win and lauded Kagiso Rabada and Aiden Markram for their contribution. He also thanked the fans for their support.
"It has been a special couple of days, felt like we were back home in South Africa with the support we have had. Special moment for us as a team, special moment back home, will take a couple of days to sink in. The energy was there, we have been wanting this as a team, we have been knocking on the door, we have gone through the heartache, the disappointments, seen it with the past players and the sun is on us. Hopefully this is one of many.
" KG is a massive player, in a couple of years he will be in the ICC Hall of Fame. He was under controversy but he did what he does. Markram was unbelievable, stats are important but character is what we look at and Aiden has that. Another massive player for us. Us a team we got ourselves into the final, there were doubters with the route we took, supposedly beating weaker teams. This is for them. I'm sure the people back home will be celebrating," he said.
