Shubman Gill-led India are taking on the India A cricket team in an intra-squad three-day game in Beckenham. The team management is keeping its preparations secret and the match isn't being streamed or telecast anywhere. The BCCI shared few moments and two important updates from the game after the end of day 1.
Batting for the first time in England as captain, Shubman scored a half-century against India A. The BCCI didn't share the exact number of runs he scored.
KL Rahul continued his form and slammed a half-century. The former India vice-captain is all but set to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal. They faced the new ball in the intra-squad game. Rahul landed in England early and played the second unofficial Test match against England Lions.
Opening the innings with Yashasvi, Rahul scored 116 off 168 balls in the first innings. He followed up with a half-century as India A dominated the proceedings.
Shardul Thakur, who made his Test comeback for the England series, was among the wickets in the intra-squad match. The intra-squad match gives the players the best opportunity to assimilate to the conditions in England before the start of the Test series.
The five-match Test series between the two teams will kick off on June 20, with Leeds hosting the first Test match. The action will move to Birmingham for the second Test match, scheduled to be played from July 2 to 6. Lord's will host the third Test match from July 10 to 14.
Manchester will host the fourth Test match from July 23 to 27. Kennington Oval will host the fifth and final Test match of the series. The previous India-England Test series ended in a 2-2 draw. India returned home with a 2-1 lead in 2021. They lost the fifth Test match, played in July 2022.
