The World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa is headed for a tense finish. The game has progressed at a lightning speed, and the odds are high that the match will see a result on Day 3 itself. Australia have their noses slightly ahead, with a lead of 218 runs, but South Africa would also feel they have a great chance of winning the match.
The bowlers from both teams have been on fire in the Test. Kagiso Rabada rattled Australia with a five-wicket haul on Day 1, bowling out the defending champions for 212. Australia came roaring back into the contest, with captain Pat Cummins leading the charge with a six wicket haul, and knocked over South Africa for 138, taking a handy lead of 74.
South Africa had a great opportunity to put Australia under serious pressure when they reduced them to 73-7; however, a fighting 43 by Alex Carey took Australia to a position of safety.

Why Are Australia-South Africa Players Wearing Black Armbands?

The Australia and South Africa players came out wearing black armbands. This was done to mourn the loss of lives during the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. For the unversed, an Air India Boeing 787 from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after takeoff, causing heavy casualties, on June 12.

Australia Favourite, But Don't Count Out The Proteas

As things stand, Australia are 144-8 at the start of Day 3. The Pat Cummins-led side would be looking to get the lead to the 250-run mark, which will be a tough total to chase on the pitch. South Africa, on the other hand, would be keen to take the final two wickets as soon as possible. Whatever the case be, Australia will be the happier side at the moment. Notably, only once has a score of over 200 been chased at Lord's since 2005.
The pitch won't be the easiest to bat, thus, South Africa is likely to come out with a more positive intent. This could be a blessing in disguise as the South African team boasts of players who have an excellent attacking game. The pitch will ensure that the players have full clarity about how to go about the chase.
