The Indian cricket team paid tribute to the victims of the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday (June 12) during their intra-squad match in England. Ahead of the start of the fixture at the Kent Cricket Ground in Beckenham on Friday (June 13), the players and support staff of the national team observed a minute's silence and also wore a black armband.

"The players and members of the support staff involved in the intra-squad game in Beckenham are wearing black armbands. A minute's silence was also observed today to pay homage to the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash, as a mark of respect for the lives lost and solidarity with the affected families," wrote BCCI in a post on X.

The four-day fixture, which is India's sole warm-up game ahead of the Test series against England is a closed doors event and is not being telecasted or live streamed as cameras are barred from the venue.

Meanwhile, the Australian and South African players also observed a minute's silence and wore black armbands at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London on the third day of play in the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final.

For those unversed, Air India Flight A171, which was travelling from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport to London's Gatwick Airport, crashed seconds after it took off from a campus building of the BJ Medical College in the city.

The plane had 242 people on board, which included Passengers and crew members, including 169 Indian citizens, 53 British Nationals, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian. 241 people lost their lives while one survivor emerged.

As far as the Indian team are concerned, head Gautam Gambhir has flown back to Inida due to a family emergecy. Reports have revealed that he is expected to return to England on June 17.
