The Asia Cup 2025 is in jeopardy. The tournament is scheduled for September, but given the recent border tensions between India and Pakistan, any cricket between the two countries in the current scenario looks unlikely. While there is no official confirmation from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), speculations are rife that the tournament could be postponed.
If the Asia Cup is postponed due to the India-Pakistan conflict, the chances of the blockbuster clash during the T20 World Cup 2026 will also hit a new low. This situation will not be feasible for the PCB or even the ICC, even though the BCCI might still get away with it.
The PCB is optimistic that the Asia Cup will be played, and are doing everything possible to be prepared for the showpiece event. According to a report in tribune.com.pk, the PCB is planning a tri-series with Afghanistan and UAE to get ready for the Asian championship.
India are the host for the Asia Cup, but Pakistan won't tour the country for the mega event. The tournament will either be played in a hybrid model or completely move out of the country to a neutral venue, with the UAE as a possible option.
Afghanistan is set to tour Pakistan in August, but the PCB feels it would be feasible to include the UAE and play a tri-series in the UAE to give the team a decent chance to get used to the conditions in case the Asia Cup is shifted to the UAE. The report reveals that the discussions between the cricket boards are underway, and an official update on the tri-series could be out soon.

Fans Upset After PCB's Call

Meanwhile, a section of fans are not happy with PCB involving UAE in the tri-series, but instead want Sri Lanka or Bangladesh to join.
Pakistan and Afghanistan have shared an intense cricket rivalry. They have not played each other in a bilateral series in Pakistan, and the PAK-AFG series would have pulled a huge crowd. A move to possibly shift the series out of Pakistan to the UAE is a risky call that Pakistan is willing to take for the sake of the Asia Cup, but if the tournament is postponed, the odds are high that the move will draw backlash from home fans.
