Australia battles South Africa at Lord’s for the World Test Championship title starting Wednesday, June 11. Both teams have strong performances at Lord's, with Australia unbeaten there for a decade. South Africa leads with eight wins from twelve tests, while Australia boasts thirteen wins from nineteen, having defeated India to reach the final.
Australia always stands out in major cricket finals. It is the only team to have won all four men’s global trophies, with a record of 10 wins in 13 finals across the 50-over World Cup, 20-over World Cup, Champions Trophy, and World Test Championship. They once again seek their 11th title. In stark contrast stands South Africa, which has only one major title, the Champions Trophy in 1998, when many of the current players were still young.
The finalists didn’t meet in this cycle. Their last series was in January 2023, when Australia won 2-0 at home and dominated the series.
South Africa didn’t play England either. It topped the standings with eight wins from 12 tests despite forfeiting a series in New Zealand to focus on its domestic Twenty20 league.
Australia also didn’t play last-place Bangladesh. With 13 wins in 19 tests, Australia clinched its spot in the final by beating India in January. It lost only twice away from home.
