Shreyas Iyer is one of the calm and composed captains on the field. He hardly gets angry and stays calm even in tense situations. But the fans saw another side of Shreyas as he lashed out at Shashank Singh after propelling Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the second qualifier of IPL 2025.
The captain was upset with the manner of Shashank's dismissal and didn't shake hands with him after the game. Chasing a target of 208 in a must-win game, PBKS were 169/4 when Shashank was caught short.
It was an easy single and Shashank didn't expect Hardik Pandya to go for the run-out attempt. Hardik's acrobatic skills caught Shashank short and he walked back for 2 off 3 balls.
He has emerged as one of the best finishers for PBKS and the team had high hopes from him. Speaking to The Indian Express, Shashank accepted his mistake and said that Shreyas Iyer should have slapped him. He also revealed that his father didn't talk to him till the day of the final.
"I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn’t speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you but later he took me out for dinner," the right-handed batsman said.
Shreyas played a captain's knock and remained unbeaten on 87 off 41 balls. He finished the chase with a six off Ashwani Kumar in the 19th over. He hit 3 sixes in that over.
PBKS fell short against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final and lost by six runs. Shashank did his best in the chase and remained unbeaten on 61 off 30 balls. Shreyas departed early and managed to score 1 off 2 balls.
