India officially began preparations for the England series with a high-intensity training session at Lord’s, ahead of the five-match Test series against England, beginning June 20 at Leeds.
The pace quartet of Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, alongside new captain Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, trained under head coach Gautam Gambhir.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) captured moments from the training and shared them on social media on Sunday. The video, titled “Prep begins. First sight of Team India getting into the groove in England,” opened with Pant and captain Gill walking towards the gates of the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground alongside support staff.
This underlines the beginning of a new era in Indian cricket, with Gill at the helm as the new India Test captain and Pant as his deputy. This is the first Test series for India since former Test captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement.
Gill was made India’s 37th Test captain following the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He is leading a relatively young side eyeing their first Test series win in England since 2007.
The series begins at Headingley, followed by Tests at Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval. The series also marks the beginning of the new cycle of the World Test Championships (2025-27).
India A players, including some from the main squad, are already acclimatising to English conditions and are currently involved in the second official Test against England Lions in Northampton.
