Pat Cummins IN, 3 Players OUT; RCB Star Returns After 261 Days: Australia's Likely XI For WTC Final (Source: AP)
Australia made it to yet another World Test Championship (WTC) final after they beat India 3-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and backed it up with a series win in Sri Lanka. The defending champions will face South Africa in the final at Lord's from June 11. Australia named a full-strength squad for the summit clash and would enter the match as heavy favourites.
Australia have a settled Test squad, and there won't be many changes from the team that played India. One of the biggest positives for the World Champions will be the return of Cameron Green, who missed the Australian summer due to an injury he sustained in September 2024. Green will most likely bat at the opening slot, replacing Sam Konstas.
Australia's Likely XI For WTC Final
Usman Khawaja will partner Green at the top, and will be followed by a formidable middle order comprising Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and the dangerous Travis Head. With Green in the team, Australia can play three pacers, making way for Josh Inglis in the XI. Alex Carey should be the wicketkeeper-batter.
Captain Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc will be the three pacers. There is Scott Boland in the squad, but he will most likely warm the bench unless the conditions are too juicy to play four specialist pacers. Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann are the two spinners, but there is little debate about who should get a slot in the XI, with Lyon being the first-choice spinner for Australia.
