For the forthcoming tour of England, Soham Desai has been replaced as the strength and conditioning coach of the Indian men's cricket team by Adrian le Roux, one of the most renowned names in sports science. He served in that capacity from January 2002 until May 2003, making this his second tenure with the national team. Le Roux was included in a training video released by the BCCI as India got ready for the five-match Test series, which starts on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds, with a vigorous practice at Lord's.
Under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir, the pace quartet of Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, and Jasprit Bumrah trained with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and recently named Test captain Shubman Gill.
After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired, Gill became India's 37th Test captain. He is in charge of a young team hoping to win India's first Test series in England since 2007.
Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord's, Old Trafford, and The Oval will host the five-test series. As part of their acclimatization, a number of India A players, including some from the senior squad, are already in England and are playing in the second unofficial Test match against the England Lions in Northampton.
Le Roux's impressive six-year stint with Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League precedes his comeback to the national team. The team finished as runners-up in the 2025 season, missing the championship by a mere six runs. Le Roux posted a heartfelt farewell on Instagram after the season, looking back on his time with the team and recognizing the connections and experiences he had made.
"And with that, a six-year journey with the @punjabkingsipl comes to an end. Went all the way to the final this season In the fast-moving world of professional sport, it's easy to get caught up in the results," he wrote. "But every now and then you pause and realise that while it's about performance and pressure, it's also about people, shared moments and friendships that will last a lifetime. As I step into a new role with @indiancricketteam, I'll carry these memories with me."
The five-match Test series in England will be Le Roux's first task during his second stint with India. This important tour also signifies the start of India's new World Test Championship cycle and the commencement of Shubman Gill's tenure as captain.
