Roger Binny, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is poised to step down from his role on July 19, 2025, the day he turns 70. As per the BCCI constitution, crossing this threshold renders him ineligible to continue in office beyond this age, marking the end of his distinguished tenure. While several media reports claim that the vice-president of the board, Rajeev Shukla, is likely to take over the responsibilities, there has been no official statement made by the BCCI in this regard.
Binny, who replaced former India captain Sourav Ganguly on 18 October 2022, became the 36th President of BCCI. It is essential to note that the positions held by BCCI office bearers, including the President, are honorary in nature, yet the financial benefits and allowances are substantial.
BCCI office bearers, which encompass the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and joint-secretary, are entitled to receive a daily allowance of $1,000 (approximately ₹85,743) while on foreign tours. This was a notable increase from the previous allowance of $750 per day that came into effect in October 2022, according to a PTI report, marking the first revision in over seven years. Additionally, these officials are entitled to fly first class for all overseas travel.
For meetings conducted within India, the BCCI President and other office bearers receive ₹40,000 per day. In instances of 'work travel,' they get compensated with ₹30,000 per day. They also have the privilege to book suite rooms during both domestic and international trips.
Members of the BCCI Apex Council, which includes representatives from the Indian Cricketers' Association, earn ₹40,000 per day for quarterly meetings and $500 for overseas travel. Furthermore, members of the Cricket Advisory Committee receive ₹3.5 lakh for their meetings, with a daily allowance of $400 for potential foreign travel.
The BCCI's decision to enhance these allowances reflected the organisation's recognition of the responsibilities carried by its office bearers. The increase aimed to provide better compensation for the duties performed during official engagements. This financial structure not only highlights the lucrative nature of the positions but also the commitment of BCCI to support its leaders in fulfilling their roles effectively.
