19 Years after making his Test debut for India, Piyush Chawla bid adieu to all forms of cricket. The star leg-spinner announced his retirement through social media. Chawla has retired from the sport at the age of 36 after playing for India in all three formats and leaving a lasting legacy in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Chawla hails from Uttar Pradesh and played domestic cricket for the majority of his career from the state. He also represented Gujarat for a brief period later in his career. The veteran leg-spinner started his IPL career with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), and later also played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians.

Piyush Chawla's Career In Numbers -

India's 2nd Youngest Test Cricketer - Piyush Chawla made his Test debut for India in 2006 against England at Nagpur. Chawla was aged just 17 years, 75 days at that time, making him the second youngest Indian Test cricketer. Only Sachin Tendulkar (16 years, 205 days played for India at a younger age in the whites. L Sivaramakrishan (17 years, 118 days), Parthiv Patel (17 years 152 days), Maninder Singh (17 years, 193 days),VL Mehra (17 years, 267 days), and Harbhajan Singh (17 years, 300 days) also played Test cricket for India before turning 18.
Two-Time World Cup-winner: Piyush Chawla was part of the Indian side that won the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 Cricket World Cup under MS Dhoni. Chawla did not play a single game in 2007 while only playing in three games in 2011 and did not feature in any knockout match.
International Cricket Record: Piyush Chawla played only three Test matches for India, all of which were in different with the last one being in 2012. He took seven wickets in the longest format of the game. Chawla made his ODI debut in 2007 and played his last game for India in the 2011 World Cup. Overall, he took 32 wickets in 25 matches. He featured in 7 T20Is for India in a period between 2010 and 2012, in which he got four wickets.
IPL Legend: Piyush Chawla played in the IPL from the inaugural season in 2008 till 2024. He finishes as the league's third-highest wicket-taker in history with 192 wickets. Chawla is also PBKS' second-highest wicket-taker in history with 84 scalps. The veteran spinner is also fourth on the list of KKR's leading wicket-takers with 71 wickets.
Chawla won the IPL in 2014 with KKR and even scored the winning runs in the final against his former side Punjab.
1000 Wickets: In his professional career, Piyush Chawla ended with 1000 scalps with 446 wickets in first-class cricket, 254 in List-A cricket, and 319 in T20 cricket.
