
RCB issused a second statement on the Bengaluru stampede

Following the tragic events in Bengaluru on Wednesday (June 4) outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) victory ceremony, the franchise has announced a financial compensation of Rs 10 Lakhs for the families of the deceased. The franchise also revealed a new fund 'RCB cares' has been created to offer support to the victims.
"The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident. Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief," said RCB in a statement.
For those unversed, RCB lifted the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Tuesday (June 3) after beating Punjab Kings in the final, marking their first-ever trophy in men's cricket. The Rajat Patidar-led side returned to Bengaluru on Wednesday (June 4) with grand celebrations planned as the team were feliciated by the Karnataka government at the Vidhana Soudha before a victory ceremony at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. While an open bus parade was planned, it did not happen after contrasting statements from the franchise and the local police.
However, thousands of people were gathered outside the venue despite it being packed to capacity. Things took a tragic turn outside the stadium gates as a stampede occurred, where 11 people lost their lives while several others are feared injured.
The local government and authorities have faced criticism over the incident, as well as RCB, with several people questioning the timing as the ceremony was scheduled just hours after RCB won the title.
The programme inside the Chinnaswamy Stadium continued despite the incidents outside the venue. However, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal claimed that franchise officials inside the venue were not aware, and the programme was wrapped as soon as the information was passed to them.
BCCI and IPL officials have claimed that the event was not organised by them and they had no knowledge of it.BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has also indicated that the Indian cricket governing body will take a call on victory celebrations for IPL teams in the future.
