Knowing for making controversial remarks, Yuvraj Singh's father, Yograj Singh, lashed out at Shreyas Iyer after Punjab Kings' (PBKS) lost the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six runs on Tuesday (June 3) at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
Shreyas, who created history by leading Punjab Kings (PBKS) to their first final in 11 years was their star performer in the tournament with 604 runs in the tournament. The 31-year-old guided PBKS to the final with an innings for the ages in the second qualifier against Mumbai Indians (MI) but had a rare off outing in the summit clash and was dismissed after making just one run.
Yograj was not pleased with Shreyas and claimed that there were no players were behind him. Yograj named Yuvraj and MS Dhoni as the only two great finishers in India.
"There is only one criminal from yesterday's match. That is Shreyas Iyer, Punjab's captain.Someone ask hin, whenever he has played, Punjab has won. There is no one behind him to play. No one is bigger than the game. India have had only two great finishers. MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. 92% is their winning rate. Yuvraj has a 98% winning rate. Yuvraj has won 72 games single-handedly. This is called a player.
"You tell me, you took Punjab to the final. Whenever you performed, the team has won. Virat Kohli made 40 runs, but those 40 runs became 80. Only one person lost Punjab the match, that is their captain. I have a lot of anger. What happened yesterday, no one will see. What will happen tomorrow, no one knows. But what happened today, that will be talked about," said Yograj in an interaction with news agency IANS.
Shreyas had the best IPL season of his career and crossed the 600-run mark for the first time. He has become the first captain in IPL history to reach the final with three teams after leading Delhi Capitals (DC) to a runners-up finish in 2020 and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the title in 2024.
