They defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ultimate contest by a margin of 6 runs. They have not only won many hearts after this win, but also had added a pretty hefty amount to their purse. Even PBKS have won a hefty amount after being crowned runners-up.
By virtue of being the winners of the IPL 2025, RCB have pocketed Rs 20 crore, which the same amount won by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2024. PBKS will win Rs 13.5 crore.
Virat Kohli, Krunal Pandya Guide RCB To Win
Virat Kohli was the top-scorer (43 of 35) despite playing a scratchy knock as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) posted 190 on the board. Phil Salt (16 of 9) threatened to give RCB a quick start but was dismissed in the second over. Mayank Agarwal (24 of 18) and Rajat Patidar (26 of 16) also failed to convert their starts into good scores.
Liam Livingstone (25 of 15) and Jitesh Sharma (24 of 10) played some blazing but short innings in the latter end of the innings to get RCB to a respectable score.. P Kyle Jamieson and Arshdeep Singh were the pick of the RCB bowlers with three wickets each. Yuzvendra Chahal, Azmatullah Omarzai, Vijaykumar Vyshak took one wicket each.
Punjab Kings also got off to a slow start but the only good part was they did not lose many wickets. Priyansh Arya (24 off 19 balls) joined a 43-run opening partnership with Prabhsimran Singh before getting out in the fifth over. However, it was Krunal Pandya who turned the game towards RCB. He gave just 17 runs in his four-over spell and also took two big wickets of Prabhsimran and Josh Inglis.
Everyone had hopes from Shreyas Iyer to repeat his heroics from Qualifier 2 against MI but Romario Shepherd cut shot his innings to just 1 run off 2 balls. RCB kept on building pressure as PBKS kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Eventually, RCB who was considered the weakest team at the auction table went on to win the tournament and lifted their maiden IPL trophy.
