In a rather unprecedented situation, the toss in the third ODI between England and the West Indies at the Kennington Oval in London was delayed, but not due to rain or a wet outfield, but instead due to the West Indies team being stuck in traffic in the city.
The team did not arrive in time on the ground for the scheduled time of the toss (5:00 PM IST, 12:30 PM Local), which also meant the match could not start in time (5:30 PM IST, 1:00 PM IST).
"Due to a delayed arrival of one of the playing teams, who are stuck in heavy traffic north of the river, the scheduled start of play will be delayed. Once all members of the playing teams arrive, the match officials will coordinate updated timings and discuss any impact on the schedule of play. We will update spectators with the schedule of play as soon as we are able to," Surrey Cricket posted on X.
Eventually, the West Indies players arrived at the ground, but the match was delayed by an hour. The match will start at 6:00 PM IST (13:30 local) while the toss will take place at 5:40 PM IST (13:10 local).
There is also a rain threat looming over the match. The pitch was covered ahead of the West Indies team's arrival with dark clouds hovering over the stadium.
Talking about the match, this is the third of a three-match series. As things stand, England has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. The hosts won the first match by 238 runs before sealing a three-wicket victory in a thrilling clash in the second ODI.
After the ODI series ends, the teams will play each other in a three-match T20I series.
