Shreyas Iyer justified his 26.75 crore price tag as he led Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the IPL 2025 final after a five-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI). The skipper led from the front and played an 87-run knock to help PBKS chase the 204-run target set by MI. The chase wasn't easy against a class bowling unit led by Jasprit Bumrah, but Iyer held his calm and absorbed pressure early on before unleashing a brutal attack. Iyer got good support from Nehal Wadhera, who scored 48 in 29 balls to stitch a crucial 84-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Iyer has been instrumental in PBKS' juggernaut in IPL 2025, scoring 603 runs in 16 matches. Iyer will hope to lead PBKS to their maiden IPL win when they take on RCB in the final on June 3.

Shreyas Iyer Creates History

Meanwhile, the 87-run knock helped Shreyas Iyer achieve a special personal milestone. He became the first captain in the world to score three 50+ scores in IPL playoffs. Iyer scored 65 while leading Delhi Capitals against MI in the IPL 2020 and scored 58 in Qualifier 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.
Iyer also became the first captain in the world to take three different teams to the IPL final. Before leading PBKS to the final, he took Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders to the final in 2020 and 2024, respectively.

PBKS To Face RCB In IPL 2025 Final

PBKS will play RCB in the final of the IPL 2025. Both teams are yet to win the IPL trophy, so one of them will get the monkey off the back, while the other will suffer a big heartbreak. RCB have played three IPL finals and suffered a defeat in all games. PBKS, on the other hand, played the final in 2014 but lost to KKR. RCB will have a slight advantage heading into the contest as they defeated PBKS by eight wickets in Qualifier 1.
