In the high-voltage IPL 2025 Eliminator between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, tensions flared when a fiery mid-pitch battle broke out between Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Tewatia.
The incident took place in the 18th over of Gujarat Titans' run chase. Tewatia smashed Bumrah for a six over deep mid-wicket, sending a jolt through MI’s camp. But in the very next delivery, Tewatia swung the bat aggressively but failed to connect with the ball. This was followed by another failed attempt to hit a six, and Tewatia managed only a leg bye. While taking the single, he muttered something that irked Bumrah.
Bumrah, who is known for his calm demeanour, was caught on the stump mic saying: “Mereko mat bol (Don't say it to me),” making it clear he did not like what Tewatia said. The GT batter, caught off guard, quickly clarified: “Main tereko nahi bol raha hoon, main khud ko bol raha (I wasn’t talking to you, I was saying it to myself).”
The incident, thankfully, did not escalate further as the players maintained restraint. Bumrah returned to his bowling mark, while Tewatia focused on his batting. Although it was a brief incident of escalation in the game, emotions ran high as GT eventually lost to Mumbai Indians by 20 runs.
MI will now face Punjab Kings on Sunday in the Qualifier 2 with the aim of securing a place in the final. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have already qualified for the final by winning the Qualifier 1 against Punjab Kings. The final of IPL 2025 is scheduled for June 3 in Ahmedabad.
