India are all set to travel to England for a five-match Test series that will mark their first series in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. This will be a crucial series for India as this will be the first time that the team will be playing Tests after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the longest format of the game. With the squad likely to be announced on Saturday (May 24), some have even hoped that Shreyas Iyer might make the cut in the team, given his recent great form for India. However, he is not likely to get selected.
According to a report by The Times of India, the selectors are not convinced by Shreyas Iyer's skills in the red ball game, and this is why they are not considering him for selection. The selectors feel that his strokeplay and attitude is more suited to the white-ball game.
“Iyer’s new stance, bold strokeplay, and carefree attitude to batting are all suited to the white-ball game now. The selectors aren’t convinced about his red-ball skills," a source close to the proceedings told the publication.
In fact, Shreyas Iyer was not even selected in the India A squad that will travel to England earlier to take on England Lions in two 4-day games, followed by an intra-squad match against the India senior team.
