Karun Nair is likely to make his comeback to the national team after 7 years while Sai Sudharsan is likely to get rewarded with a place in the Test team when the Ajit Agarkar-headed selection committee announce the squad for the series against England. Apart from naming the squad, the selection committee will also unveil the new captain of the Test team.
Cricbuzz has reported that Nair could be picked in the squad for the England Test series. The right-handed batsman scored 863 runs in 9 Ranji Trophy matches in the 2024/25 season. His tally included 4 centuries and 2 half-centuries.
Nair enjoyed a purple patch in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and scored 779 runs in 8 innings. He hit 5 centuries and a half-century in the tournament. Nair batted at an average of 389.50 in the white-ball tournament.
As for Sudharsan, he scored 304 runs in 3 Ranji Trophy matches. The left-handed batsman travelled to Australia with the India A team and is set to tour England with the 'A' team again. With 638 runs, he holds the Orange Cap in the ongoing IPL 2025.
India are unlikely to have any new faces in the team despite the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Sudharsan is capped in white-ball cricket.
Jasprit Bumrah to play 3 Tests
Jasprit Bumrah is likely to play only 3 Tests on the England tour. The Indian Express has reported that Bumrah has informed the BCCI that his body can't take the toll of more than 3 Tests.
The right-arm pacer suffered a back issue during the fifth Test match against Australia and did not bowl in the final innings of the game. Bumrah was leading India in that game.
Bumrah's fitness issues could also see him miss out on Test captaincy. Shubman Gill is the front-runner to be named the new Test captain of Team India.
