Rishabh Pant, the costliest player of IPL 2025 at Rs 27 crore, on Thursday hit two no-look sixes to awe his teammates, support staff, and fans alike. Pant, who has been at the eye of the storm in IPL 2025 due to his poor form scoring 151 runs from 13 matches, came in to bat in the 19th over. On the first ball of the 20th over, he dispatched a Kagiso Rabada delivery for a six. Then again, on the fifth delivery of the last over, he hit another similar six, receiving applause for his effort from the crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The video of his late carnage has gone viral since Thursday evening, as Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants handed table-toppers Gujarat Titans a 33-run defeat.
The Super Giants posted a mammoth 235/2 on the board, thanks to a maiden hundred (64-ball 117) by Mitchell Marsh, a quickfire fifty by Nicholas Pooran (56 off 27 balls), and a late blitz by Pant (16 off 6 balls).
Earlier, the Titans, who had already sealed their spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs, won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Aiden Markram (36 off 24 balls) and Marsh laid the foundation of LSG's innings, sharing a 91-run partnership for the opening wicket, with the duo adding 53 runs without loss in the powerplay. The partnership was broken by Sai Kishore in the 10th over.
After the powerplay, Marsh hit Purple Cap holder Prasidh Krishna for a six and a four. He reached his sixth IPL fifty of the season in the 10th over, smashing a six off Sai Kishore in 33 balls. However, Kishore struck in the same over, dismissing Markram. Pooran joined Marsh at the crease and started off by hitting Kishore for a six off his very first ball. At the halfway mark, LSG were 97/1.
Marsh then took seasoned spinner Rashid Khan to the cleaners, smashing him for 25 runs, including two sixes and three fours. LSG crossed the 150-run mark in the 15th over, scoring 13 runs off Kishore. At the end of the 15th, they were 160/1.
Marsh and Pooran then collected 20 runs off Mohammed Siraj's final over. Marsh brought up his maiden IPL century in just 56 balls in the 17th over. The pair added 100 runs for the second wicket in just 42 balls.
Marsh was finally dismissed by Arshad Khan on the second delivery of the 19th over. But Pooran continued to batter the GT bowlers, reaching his fifth fifty in just 23 balls.
LSG captain Pant came in for the final two overs and made an impact, smashing Rabada for two sixes that propelled the Super Giants to a daunting total of 235/2 in their 20 overs.
With William O'Rourke picking up three wickets and Avesh Khan and Ayush Badoni taking two wickets each, the Gujarat Titans fell short of the target by 33 runs despite a half-century by Shahrukh Khan.
