Paul Stirling-led Ireland are hosting Shai Hope's West Indies in a white-ball series. The two teams will lock horns in 3 ODIs before WI will fly to England for white-ball fixtures. WI will return to Ireland to take on the home team in 3 T20Is. Stirling and Andy Balbirnie provided a dream start to Ireland and added 109 runs for the first wicket. Stirling departed for 53 off 64 balls.
The Ireland captain created history and etched his name in record books during his 53-run knock. He is now the first and only Ireland batsman to score 10000 runs in international cricket.
The right-handed batsman has 5979 runs in ODIs, 3656 runs in T20Is and 382 runs in Tests. Stirling made his Ireland debut in an ODI against New Zealand in 2008. He played his maiden T20I in 2009. Stirling was part of Ireland's playing XI in their debut Test match in 2018.
He has been one of the best batsmen for Ireland in the international arena and they will hope that he continues to play for them for few more years. Stirling has 16 centuries, most for Ireland. He is the only Irish batsman with more than 50 (57) half-centuries.
Batsmen with most runs for Ireland
Andy Balbirnie sits at the second spot in the list. He has 6129 runs in 235 matches. He is followed by Kevon O'Brien, who scored 5850 runs. William Porterfield scored 5480 runs and sits at the fourth spot.
Ireland score 303
Courtesy of a brilliant batting performance from their batsmen, Ireland have registered a big total of 303/6 on the board in the first ODI. Harry Tector scored 56 off 51 balls while Lorcan Tucker smashed 30 off 18 balls.
WI lost early wickets in the big chase and were 29/4 after 9 overs. They are without the services of their IPL-bound players.
