UAE Scripts History With Thrilling Win Over BAN, Becomes First Associate Team To Achieve This Record Feat (Source: UAE Cricket/X)
UAE scripted history as they defeated Bangladesh for the first time in T20I cricket. UAE showed glimpses of brilliance and put Bangladesh under pressure in the first T20I, but it was not good enough to win against a top Bangladesh side. In the second T20I, however, Bangladesh didn't let the chances slip away and registered a thrilling win by two wickets.
The win looked a distant dream once Bangladesh posted a score of 205-2 in 20 overs. UAE, however, didn't give up. Muhammad Waseem and Muhammad Zohaib got the team off to a flyer, just like the first T20I, and added 107 for the first wicket in 10.1 overs before Zohaib departed for 38. Waseem was in unstoppable mode and tormented the bowlers, racing his way to 82 in 42 balls before being dismissed. He has put UAE in a commanding position at 148-3 before walking back and it was UAE's game to lose from there.
There was a phase where UAE almost messed up the chase after they slipped from 158-4 to 177-7 in the 18.1 overs, needing 29 runs in 11 balls, but Dhruv Parashar and Haider Ali got 17 runs in the penultimate over by Shoriful Islam. Parashar hit a six in the final over before being dismissed but Haider Ali held his nerves to take the team home.
UAE Creates History
The win was special in many ways for the UAE. The chase of 206 was the highest ever by an associate nation against a full-member team in T20I history. It was also the UAE's first-ever successful chase of 200-plus in T20I cricket history.
"I have no words. I am very happy we beat Bangladesh. Very happy with the performance. I was giving hope to everyone that we could chase this score because we know the conditions," said the captain and Player of the Match, Muhammad Waseem.
