Explained! Why Asia Cup 2025 Can't Be Played Without India (Source: ACC)

The Asia Cup 2025 is in jeopardy after the BCCI reportedly pulled out of the event. The tournament was set to be played in India in September; however, given the current India-Pakistan relations, it was unlikely that the arch-rivals would have faced in the tournament. The Asia Cricket Council (ACC) is headed by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi so BCCI didn't have much power to push for Pakistan's exit from the tournament, but they handed a body blow to PCB by pulling out of the event.

Predicting Asia Cup 2025's Fate

Without India, the Asia Cup won't have any charm. Most of the sponsors of the event are from India, and without the Men in Blue participating, the tournament will struggle to get sponsors. Also, India vs Pakistan generates a lot of revenue for the ACC, and if the blockbuster clash is not part of the event, there are high odds that the tournament will be a disaster financially for all the stakeholders. While Mohsin Naqvi will have an option to replace India with any other Asian team, the tournament is most likely to be kept in the cold bag as the chances of it being a financial success will be low.

Why India Pulled Out?

India have cut all ties with Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack, and they are likely to boycott playing Pakistan in ICC and ACC events as well. The bilateral ties between the teams were cut off in 2012-13 when the teams last played a bilateral series. Since then, the teams have only met in the Asia Cup and the ICC events. Given the recent developments, it's very likely that India will not play Pakistan in any event going forward. Since India are a superpower, Pakistan could be isolated in world cricket.
