With the race for India's Test captaincy heating up, Ravichandran Ashwin was not pleased as the chief selector Ajit Agarkar looks for a replacement for Rohit Sharma, who retired from the longest format of the game last week.
Jasprit Bumrah was the vice-captain of the team under Rohit and has led the country in three Test matches. However, it is looking increasingly unlikely that he will not be named as the new captain, with concerns over his fitness and the importance of workload management around him, meaning he might not be available to play every match.
Ashwin expressed his disappointment that Bumrah will not get the top job and referred to him as a national treasure as rumours grow that Shubman Gill is all set to be named captain.
"There is a leadership vacuum in the team. If you ask me one simple and plain choice for captaincy, it should Jasprit Bumrah. Jasprit Bumrah's workload and all keep coming up. Pat Cummins has led Australia and has done really well. Jasprit had one surgery and then a break again, I am not sure whether wants to puts himself on the line for five Tests.

The veteran Indian cricketer threw the name of Ravindra Jadeja in the mix and called for India to pick a captain who is guaranteed a place in the playing XI.So far, Jadeja's name have not been mentioned in the captaincy talks despite him being India's most experienced player.
"There are obvious choices, but I want to throw in another name as well - Ravindra Jadeja. There is always news on who will be made captain or vice-captain, but their name should first be in the playing XI of the team. He must be an automatic selection," Ashwin.
Further, Ashwine explained his choice on his official Tamil Youtube channel that a young captain should be named as the vice-captain.
"Let's not forget, Jadeja is the most experienced player in the team. He should be in the conversation. If you're willing to train a new guy for two years and then make him captain, Jadeja can do that for two years too. They (India) can even play him as vice-captain (under Jadeja). It will seem like I'm throwing in a wildcard," said Ashwin.
Jadeja made his international debut in 2009 and has been playing Test cricket since 2012, but has never captained the team so far.
