IPL 2025 will resume with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hosting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 58th match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday (May 17). RCB are favourites to qualify for the playoffs while the same cannot be said about the defending champions. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side is reeling at the sixth spot in the points table.
KKR have just managed 5 wins from 12 matches and have 11 points in their account at an NRR of +0.193. Apart from winning their next 2 matches, KKR also need favours from other teams.
RCB, on the other hand, have their destiny in their own hands and they can also finish in top two. They have 8 wins from 11 matches. RCB have 16 points at an NRR of +0.482 and sit at the second spot. They can move to the top spot on the very first day the tournament resumes. Here's how it can happen -
RCB have same number of wins and points as the top-placed Gujarat Titans (GT). Just a win over KKR will be enough for them to move to the top spot. GT will have an opportunity to reclaim the top spot as they are scheduled to face Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday (May 18).
Punjab Kings (PBKS) will have an opportunity to move to the top spot if both RCB and GT lose their respective matches. The Shreyas Iyer-led side has 7 wins and 15 points. A win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) will see them move to the top spot - if both RCB and GT lose. If one team loses and the other team wins, then PBKS can move to the second spot.
Mumbai Indians have 7 wins from 12 matches and are at the fourth spot. They need to win rest of their two matches to qualify for the playoffs.
