IPL 2025: Major Setback for RCB, Star Player Return in Doubt if IPL Resumes. (Source: BCCI)
IPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been hit by an injury scare after reports emerged on Sunday that star pacer Josh Hazlewood suffered a shoulder niggle.
The Australian speedster had already missed RCB’s last fixture against Chennai Super Kings on May 3 due to the same injury concern. He was also reportedly a doubtful starter for RCB's next clash against Lucknow Super Giants before the tournament was abruptly suspended due to heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan.
According to cricinfo, sources have revealed that Hazlewood may have been forced to sit out the remainder of the season even if the IPL had continued uninterrupted.
Hazelwood, who had been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Test series in Sri Lanka, and the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year, had only recently returned to competitive cricket after a prolonged rehabilitation for a calf injury and side strain.
With the WTC final in mind, a decision must be made should the IPL resume.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has initiated steps to restart the suspended IPL 2025 season by verbally communicating to all the teams to regroup at their respective venues. Except for the Punjab Kings (PBKS), all the sides will assemble at their respective venues by Tuesday, May 13.
A BCCI official in a chat with Times Now stated that the board is looking to kickstart the IPL next week across four venues. While the venues will be shortlisted soon, the locations of the playoff, eliminator and final are likely to remain the same. The tournament will resume with the match between RCB and LSG.
