In the wake of the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, sporting events across India have been affected. Pakistan tried to disrupt India's military bases and civilian areas across Northern and Western India, launching drone and missile attacks, which were intercepted by India's air defense system.
However, due to the ongoing standoff, several sports events involving international athletes have had to be postponed as a precautionary measure.
IPL 2025
The BCCI has been suspended the IPL 2025 for a week. The board is currently considering options to conduct the remaining matches. With 58 completed matches in IPL 2025, 16 matches are still left to be played, including the playoffs and the final, scheduled for May 25.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), according to The Guardian, has offered to host the remainder of the 18th season of the IPL in September.
The BCCI postponed the IPL 2025 after Pakistan launched an attack in Pathankot, a major military base of India, during the May 8 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala, which is about 85 km from Pathankot. The stadium was evacuated, and the players, support staff, and officials returned to Delhi by a special train, as the airspace and airports were shut in Northern India due to the ongoing tension.
NC Classic 2025
Besides the IPL 2025, the other major event that has been postponed indefinitely is the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic (NC Classic) 2025, a World Athletics A-level event, scheduled for May 24 at Bengaluru's Sree Kanteerava Stadium.
"In light of the current situation, the inaugural edition of the NC Classic stands postponed until further notice. This decision has been made after careful thought and consultation, with the well-being of athletes, stakeholders, and the broader community as the top priority," stated NC Classic in a social media post.
"We believe in the unifying power of sport. But, in this critical moment, standing firm with the nation matters most. All our gratitude and thoughts at this point are only with our Armed Forces, who are at the forefront for our nation. A revised schedule for the NC Classic will be provided in due course. Jai Hind!" the statement concluded.
Bengal Pro T20 League
The Cricket Association Bengal (CAB), meanwhile, postponed Bengal Pro T20 League Season 2 on Friday.
"Considering the prevailing national circumstances, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has decided to postpone the start of Bengal Pro T20 League Season 2 and thus all pre-events related to it, until further notice. A revised schedule, including updated venues and fixtures, will be shared after a detailed review of the situation in coordination with relevant authorities and stakeholders, and any advisory as issued by the BCCI," CAB announced.
